PulteGroup’s Built to Honor Program Surprises Air Force Veteran and Bronze Star Recipient with Mortgage-Free Home in Houston
U.S. Air Force Staff Sergeant and Bronze Star recipient Jonathan Olds received the surprise of a lifetime: he was selected to receive a brand-new home through PulteGroup’s Built to Honor® program. In its 10th year of providing homes to wounded veterans, this will be the ninth mortgage-free home awarded by the Company’s Houston division.
After arriving at Pulte Homes’ Mavera community in Conroe, Texas, Staff Sergeant Olds was met with members of the Pulte team who revealed the big surprise with signs that read, “We would like to say thank you for your service, now let us serve you by building a new mortgage-free home.” Together with his wife and four children, Staff Sergeant Olds and his family officially broke ground on their future home.
“It is a great privilege to award this home to Staff Sergeant Olds in honor of his heroism and service to our country,” said PulteGroup’s Houston Division President Lindy Oliva. “We look forward to working with him to create a home that is perfectly suited to meet his family’s needs.”
Built specifically for the Olds family, the single-story 2,028 sq. ft home in Pulte’s master planned community, Mavera, will be ready this fall. PulteGroup has awarded the home in partnership with Military Warriors Support Foundation, a national non-profit organization whose mission is to provide support and programs that facilitate a smooth and successful transition for our nation’s combat-wounded heroes and Gold Star families.
Staff Sergeant Olds joined the U.S. Air Force in 2006 during his senior year of high school. As a Tactical Air Control Party (TACP) and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC), he was responsible for calling in air strikes and close air support for Army infantry platoons. After nearly nine years of service and completing three deployments, he was medically retired in January 2015.
For his service and valor, Staff Sergeant Olds is the recipient of the Bronze Star, Purple Heart with 1 Oak Leaf Cluster, Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Air Force Combat Action Medal, Army Combat Action Badge, and numerous other medals and ribbons.
